(DSO) This type of program offers supports that lead to the acquisition, improvement, and retention of skills and abilities to prepare for work and community life through meaningful socialization, leisure, and retirement activities. These supports might include the development, maintenance or enhancement of independent functioning skills, assistance in developing and maintaining friendships and skills to use in daily interactions, the development of work skills, and opportunities to volunteer and become an active member of the local community.
People who are elderly and choose to no longer want to work may opt to attend a Senior program. The Senior program may incorporate the person in the activities of all the other participants, might be a program that is designed around elderly people or may be a combination of both where the person attends a community senior center for part of the time. A Senior Support program is developed when someone chooses to retire from work or other types of day programs. People who receive Senior Supports are often elderly or have health conditions and/or other challenges. Seniors choose the activities they want to participate in or the goals they want to pursue. Activities can occur in the community or in the home.
This waiver service includes individually tailored supports that help people gain or maintain skills to participate more fully and productively in work, leisure or community activities. This may include the development of independent living skills, relationship skills, exploring job interests or retirement programs. It can also provide funds for staff supports for individuals who have their own businesses. Individualized Day Supports can have either a vocational or non-vocational focus.
